Dismissed Officer Sentenced For Stealing

Awolu Ado, a dismissed army officer has been sentenced to two and a half years imprisonment for stealing, burglary and impersonation by a Lagos state magistrates’ court.

The 35 year old former officer of the Nigerian military confessed that he learnt the technique of burgling when he was still an active officer. PM News reports that the Plateau state-born man who pleaded leniency was caught when he broke into a shop and stole N10,000 worth of clothes.

The shop was said to belong to Mrs Korede Leshi at Erinkitola Street, Idi-Oro, Mushin.


Abass abayomi, the police prosecutor claimed that Ado wore military uniform – even though he had been dismissed from the military – and broke into the shop. He was however caught by residents as he tried to escape with the clothes he had stolen. He was found guilty and subsequently sentenced to two and a half years in prison without the option of fine by the presiding magistrate, Mrs. Joy Ugbomoiko.
