Review: Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in 01 Personne ne rouge!

Hey Beauties!

First of all, happy international women's day to all the ladies out there. Hope you had a great day today and felt proud to be a woman. I did some shopping this week and actually used my gift card in one of the local drugstore. I saw the new Bourjois Rouge Edition with their Velvet matte lipsticks and couldn't not buy one. After swatching and deciding, I got the most me and most classic red shade in my opinion. So, I hope I'll get a good use out of it.

It looks like a lip gloss in plastic packaging. The shade is seen through. The packaging is the size of a regular lipstick. It has sponge applicator. It's a cream which turns into a matte finish. There's 6.7 ml of product in it and costs 12.99 €.

The shade 01 Personne ne rouge! is a classic slightly blue toned red shade. I think it would suit pretty much everyone. I chose a classic shade, which I can probably use for any occasion. The range has also lighter and darker versions of red, corals, pinks and some nudes.

As far as the texture goes it's very creamy once applied and it needs a lot of time to dry to a complete matte finish. If you put on a thick coat you'll probably need to wait 20 minutes for it to completely dry. Or even more. The result finish is pretty amazing. It's also a bit drying. Eve though my lips were totally dried up to matte finish, if I smacked the lips together, I could feel slight stickiness of the lipstick. It's also not kiss proof or glass proof as I would like to say. Meaning, it leaves slight stain on the glass while drinking or on the person you're kissing. I guess the same thing happens to me with Essence matte lip glosses. It stays on for a really long time and it does stain the lips. In fact, when I was in the shop swatching and cleaned my hand with one of those dry tissues, I just smudged the reds all over my hand. I looked like I killed someone with my hand. Really powerful stain.

Now, as far as the application goes, I have to agree with Mateja, who also reviewed it in another shade. It's pretty difficult to get the even color payoff. I put on one coat and the lipstick didn't seemed to stick on certain parts of my lips. It's also pretty damn hard to get even application all over the lips. Which I find to be hard with most creamy lip products, since they don't go on with the same color payoff all over the lips. If you look very closely, you can see that I have a thicker line around my lips, since that's how I applied it - with the applicator. It's also better to put on one thin layer, let it dry and then add a thicker layer to fill in all the gaps. The second coat gives it that perfect matte finish. I tried to get it all over the lips as just a thin layer of stain and it's pretty difficult, because the color doesn't distribute evenly on the lips.

The thing that I like the most is the finish. Which is also why I bought it in the first place. I would love it more, if I could just put one one think coat and get even lipstick shade, but that doesn't happen. The shade range is amazing, so if you want something like that and are willing to work a bit to get it perfect on the lips, go for it. If you can't be bothered with the application and two coats, then this is not for you.
