As the follow-up to his superb sophomore outing Bloom, Australian pop crooner Troye Sivan recently announced the upcoming release of his six-track IN A DREAM extended play.
To tease the new effort, the artist dabbles in upbeat 80s synth/new wave production on "Easy", as Sivan tells the unfortunate story of how lies and distrust can destroy a loving relationship. While one party may want to mend the broken pieces after a major mistake, the other just wants to move on. The love is dissolving.
Produced by OZGO (MARINA, Hilary Duff), the juxtaposition of the somber subject matter and an unexpected flute-heavy interlude does wonders for the finished product. As the artist admits how easy it was to run to another for comfort during a tumultuous time in his relationship, Sivan has now come to the realization of just how bad a decision it was.
He begs for a second chance.
"Now I'm vulnerable, so sad and alone, but don't cry for me, 'cause everyone knows, you reap what you sow," he sings on the second verse, beating himself up for letting something so perfect slip through his fingers.
"Easy" sounds cheery and hopeful on the surface, but that may be a tactic to mask the pain buried underneath Sivan's relaxed vocal performance. After experiencing the highest of highs, and now the lowest of lows, the artist dreams of easing the unrest and gaining his partner's trust once again. Unfortunately, he may never get his wish.
It's not difficult to slip up when you are angry or frustrated with your current significant other. On "Easy", Sivan learns that's still no excuse to throw commitment away from some brief pleasure. He now suffers with the consequences of his actions.
UPDATE (12/10): Following an unexpected tease, Sivan shares an "Easy" remix featuring the vocals of country starlet Kacey Musgraves and production talents of Mark Ronson. Will the new collaborators give the somber pop jam the chart push it deserves?
And if you haven't heard Sivan's preceding single "Take Yourself Home"... here's your chance to listen to that dose of artistic awesomeness!
