A rivalry between two groups of young people from Paris and Vanves is now at the heart of the investigation. Without it being possible to say for the moment if Yuriy is part of it or if he is a collateral victim.
The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, spoke of a “foul act”. On January 15, Yuriy, a 15-year-old teenager, was seriously attacked by a dozen individuals, on the Beaugrenelle slab, in the 15th arrondissement of Paris.
The scene, filmed by a surveillance camera, was widely relayed on social networks and caused a stir.
On the day of the attack, the young man returned from his college in the 15th arrondissement, accompanied by two friends. According to the first elements of the investigation, a band of young people approach them, some armed with baseball bats.
Yuriy’s friends manage to escape, but the teenager stumbles and falls to the ground. He is then quickly surrounded by a dozen individuals who are bent on him.
The police are quickly alerted by witnesses. When they arrived, the attackers had fled.
According to our information, the gang that attacked Yuriy is from Vanves, a commune in Hauts-de-Seine bordering Paris. Several witnesses reported hearing the attackers shout “this is us, Vanves”.
A first fight, which had broken out between a group of Vanves and a group of Beaugrenelle, where the young man was attacked, could be the starting point of the events of January 15. According to our information, a member of the Vanves gang was beaten up and the latter came to take revenge. For the moment, investigators do not know if Yuriy is a collateral victim of this vendetta. There is no evidence for the moment that he is linked to the Beaugrenelle group and is described by his relatives as a child without stories.
Yuriy’s condition remains worrying
In absolute urgency, Yuriy was transferred to the hospital and placed in an artificial coma in front of the extent of his injuries. “They opened his skull, his arm broken, his fingers, his ribs,” said his mother, Nataliya Kruchenyk, at the microphone of BFM Paris.
The latter launched a call for witnesses on social networks, where she communicates daily, to collect information on the assault.
If this Saturday, Nataliya Kruchenyk confided that her son was starting “to wake up and move a little” but that it was “too early to talk about the after-effects”, his condition seems to have deteriorated overnight. On Instagram this Sunday, she confides that “today, it is not going at all”.
