Meghan Markle received new ring with special hidden message from Prince Harry - Express Posted: 06 Jul 2019 08:13 AM PDT Meghan Markle was met with criticism after it was revealed the engagement ring she had received from Prince Harry in 2017 had been modified. But royal commentator Neil Sean revealed the Duke of Sussex personally had the band remodelled to give his wife a special keepsake to hold on to when she is away from her family. Speaking to Today Extra, Mr Sean said: "What's happened is that Harry has had the eternity ring sort of remodelled by this brilliant lady over in America called Lorraine Schwartz. "They've put these diamonds and emeralds in the inner circle of the eternity ring. Basically, it's all to signify her close family, her new family which is Harry, herself and baby Archie. "So wherever she goes, wherever she is, all three of them are together. He is a bit of a romantic, Harry." Meghan Markle came under fire when she debuted the new version of the engagement ring as the original diamonds used to create it had come from the collection of Princess Diana's. Prince Harry had the American designed swap the two side diamonds for a diamond-encrusted band which also includes the birthstone for the month of May to symbolise the couple's son Archie, who was born May 6. The Duchess of Sussex is not new to paying tribute to her family through her selection of clothes and jewellery. When she married Prince Harry in May 2018, Meghan had forget-me-nots included in her wedding bouquet to pay homage to Princess Diana with the addition of her favourite flower. And on Thursday the Duchess debuted a new dainty necklace featuring the letter "A" for Archie. Emma Swann, the designer of the piece, said: "Meghan is modern, fashionable and always on trend, and personalised jewellery is the biggest trend right now. "It's all about sentiment and love, which people adore, and to see her wearing that necklace is amazing." But in addition to selecting trendier pieces to complete her outfits, Meghan Markle has also been given access to the vast collection of jewellery the Royal Family has been building up for generations. Buckingham Palace confirmed the Queen had presented her new granddaughter-in-law with a pair of diamond and pearl button earrings strikingly similar to the monarch's favourite pair ahead of their joint royal visit. Despite the collection consisting of around 300 pieces, the monarch has through the years appeared to favour a selected few when carrying out her official duties. The Queen has been spotted repeatedly wearing a familiar pair of pearl earrings known as Queen Mary's Button Earrings, and have a small diamond mounted on the top. DON'T MISS: Meghan Markle: Sweet meaning behind Duchess' new jewellery revealed ahead of christening They can be seen in photographs from Her Majesty's daytime engagements, but she also wore them for her grandchildren's weddings, including Princess Eugenie's, Prince Harry's, and Prince William's. Another recent celebratory outing was for Princess Charlotte's christening in 2015, however the familiar pair can be spotted going all the way back to the Fifties. The classic pair were from the collection of Her Majesty's grandmother, Queen Mary, who died in 1953. It is said that the Queen, who keeps many pieces of jewellery that came from Queen Mary, often refers affectionately to such pieces as "Granny's". In fact, Queen Mary's jewellery collection is held in such considerations by the Queen that she lent Meghan Markle her grandmother's bandeau tiara when she married Prince Harry. The bandeau is composed of a central brooch Mary of Teck received when she married the then-Prince George, Duke of York – the monarch's grandfather – in 1893. |
